Gluten Free? No Problemo. What Will I Eat?

Many of the all-inclusive Riviera Maya, Mexico resorts cater to the dietary needs of the guests. There are plenty of gluten-free and sugar-free options.  Lately, they have been asking about food allergies at check-in, and they make sure that when you make a la carte restaurant reservations, the chef knows your needs.  They usually confirm this when you enter the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised when I was offered gluten-free bread and desserts. If you eat a gluten-free diet, whether you have celiac disease or just a gluten intolerance, staying at an all-inclusive resort should not be a problem.

At the buffets, you are on your own and will need to read the posted signs, but even the pickiest eater can find something they like.  There are fresh fruit juices in the morning, including celery juice, greens, and other healthy concoctions, as well as adult beverages like mimosas and Bloody Marys.

Gluten-Free Travelers find Gluten-Free Foods

If you need to avoid cross-contamination, it may be more difficult if you attempt to eat at the buffets for breakfast and lunch. Make management aware of your needs when you arrive at the resort. Most all-inclusive resorts will take care to make reasonable accommodations for their guests. Those who are gluten sensitive may be able to navigate their way through the existing buffets. For example, for breakfast, there‘s the traditional made-to-order omelet, pancakes, waffles, French, toast, bacon, sausage, and potatoes, as well as traditional Mexican breakfast items to enjoy.  You will find a European option of bread, cold cuts, and cheeses, as well as endless pastries. Cereals, yogurts, and fruits are available too.

Eating Gluten-Free at All-Inclusive Resorts

If you have celiac disease, you may need to bring some of your own food to be safe. Whether or not you can find gluten-free pasta or other gluten-free items may be more difficult with supply chain issues. Before you travel, check the dining options ahead of time and look for multiple reviews from the all-inclusive resorts you are interested in. Don’t let your dietary restrictions keep you from enjoying your gluten-free vacation.
