Chasing Bigfoot in Pennsylvania: A Fun Day at the Forest County Bigfoot Festival

When most people think about our travel adventures, they probably picture us relaxing on a beach in Mexico, sipping tropical drinks, and exploring all-inclusive resorts. But this adventure is a little different. Instead of boarding a plane to Riviera Maya or Punta Cana, we are discovering some hidden gems right here in Pennsylvania. And honestly? Local travel has turned out to be full of surprises.

One of our most unexpected adventures took us to the small town of Marienville, PA, for the annual Bigfoot Festival. Yes…Bigfoot. The legendary creature that is supposedly roaming forests across North America. Whether you are a true believer, a curious skeptic, or just looking for a unique summer road trip, this festival is worth checking out.

A Small Town with a Big Personality

Nestled in the beautiful forests of northwestern Pennsylvania, Marienville is the kind of town you might normally drive through without thinking twice. Surrounded by the stunning Allegheny National Forest, it is a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. But during the Forest County Bigfoot Festival, this quiet community transforms into something truly special. As we drove into town, it was immediately obvious that Bigfoot had taken over.

Giant Sasquatch decorations stood along the streets. Vendors sold everything from Bigfoot T-shirts to handmade wooden carvings. Families wandered through town carrying Bigfoot craft items while children excitedly pointed out every Sasquatch-themed display they could find. The atmosphere felt more like a hometown celebration than a tourist attraction, and that is exactly what made it so much fun.

The Search for Sasquatch Begins

One of the best parts of the festival is that nobody takes themselves too seriously. Sure, there are plenty of people who genuinely believe Bigfoot exists, and there are experts who give presentations about sightings, footprints, and mysterious encounters. But there is also a wonderful sense of humor throughout the entire event. You see Bigfoot costumes everywhere. Some are surprisingly realistic, while others are downright hilarious.

Everywhere we turned, people were stopping for photos with giant Sasquatch statues or posing next to life-sized Bigfoot cutouts. Of course, we could not resist taking a few pictures ourselves. After all, how often do you get the chance to hang out with Bigfoot?

Vendors and Unique Finds

One of our favorite parts of any festival is browsing the vendor booths, and the Forest County Bigfoot Festival in Marienville did not disappoint. There were dozens of artisans selling handcrafted items that reflected the region’s outdoor culture and Bigfoot theme. We found custom signs, wildlife photography, jewelry, and plenty of Bigfoot-themed souvenirs. There were animals to pet and even a rattlesnake demonstration.

Food, Fun, and Festival Favorites

No festival visit would be complete without sampling some festival food. The smell of grilled meat, roasted chicken, fries, and sweet treats filled the air throughout the day. A posted schedule gave visitors the timing for when the experts were taking the stage, as well as the Biggest Foot Contest and Bigfoot Calling Contest.  By evening, music played by Two For Flinching echoed from the stage.  The festival felt welcoming, relaxed, and genuinely family-friendly.

Could Bigfoot Really Be Out There?

One of the most entertaining aspects of the event was listening to stories from Bigfoot researchers and experts. Some speakers shared stories of strange sounds in the woods. Others described unusual footprints or unexplained sightings. Speakers we listened to included Ken Gerhard, Scott & Sheila Granger, and Brooke Moorehead. Now, are we convinced Bigfoot exists? Let’s say the jury is still out. But spending a day hearing these stories certainly made us wonder. Pennsylvania is home to millions of acres of forests, remote mountain regions, and vast stretches of wilderness. If a mysterious creature were hiding somewhere, there are certainly plenty of places to disappear.

As we walked through the festival, it became clear that Bigfoot represents something larger than simply proving whether the creature exists. It’s about mystery. It is about curiosity and the excitement of wondering what might still be undiscovered in our world. And honestly, that is one of the reasons we love travel so much. Every destination has its stories, legends, and mysteries waiting to be explored.

Exploring the Allegheny National Forest

While the festival was our main destination, the surrounding area deserves recognition as well. The Allegheny National Forest provides countless opportunities for outdoor adventure.

Visitors can enjoy:

  • Hiking trails
  • Scenic drives
  • Wildlife viewing
  • Camping
  • Fishing
  • Kayaking
  • Photography

The forest’s beauty alone makes the trip worthwhile. Towering trees, peaceful streams, and quiet back roads create the perfect setting for a summer getaway. And who knows? Maybe you will spot something unusual moving through the trees. If you do, let us know. We would love to hear your story.

Why Local Travel Matters

One thing we learned is that adventure does not always require a passport. Sometimes the best experiences are right in your own backyard. While we certainly miss our trips to Mexico, exploring destinations like Marienville reminds us that every place has something unique to offer. Local travel allows us to discover small towns, support local businesses, learn regional history, and experience events we might otherwise overlook. Plus, there is something satisfying about finding hidden gems close to home. The Forest County Bigfoot Festival is exactly the kind of event that proves you do not have to travel far to create memorable experiences.

Is the Forest County Bigfoot Festival Worth Visiting?

Absolutely. Whether you are a believer, a skeptic, or simply someone looking for a fun summer day trip, the Forest County Bigfoot Festival in Marienville delivers a unique experience filled with laughter, community spirit, great food, and plenty of opportunities for photos. We arrived curious, and we left entertained. And while we did not manage to capture Bigfoot on camera, we did discover a charming Pennsylvania town and a festival unlike any other we have visited. For us, that is what travel is all about. Finding new experiences, meeting interesting people, and creating memories. And occasionally spending a day searching for a legendary creature in the Pennsylvania woods. For more information about the Forest County Bigfoot Festival, click here.
