Christmas in Riviera Maya, Mexico?

What does Christmas mean to me? Family, evergreen trees, sweaters, boots, and possibly snow, so I’ve never entertained the thought of spending the holiday somewhere warm. But after seeing these photos taken at the all-inclusive resorts Riviera Maya Iberostar at Christmas time, I’ve given it a second thought.  It’s not happening for us this year, but it could be in our future.

Lara Hunter Photographs Iberostar at Christmas

Photographer Lara Hunter has been traveling to Mexico every December since 2012. Recently she shared on Facebook her professional photos of the amazing displays at the Iberostar in Riviera Maya, Mexico that she had taken from past years. Unfortunately, she will not be there this year.

Importance of Serpent in Mayan Culture

The first photo that caught my eye was of the ornate serpent. While you do not often see snakes hanging among our Christmas decorations, the serpent is an important symbol in Mayan culture. Most abundant in their holiday displays are the beautifully lighted Christmas trees and a variety of other brilliant displays. Lara’s fabulous photos can be seen here on her Facebook page.  If you scroll down the posts of trees and other displays of lights, you will see the amazing jeweled serpent.  Feliz Navidad, mis amigos!
